The Good Food Guide 2004

A simple blue awning and flower baskets colourfully announce this Mediterranean bistro, named after an ancient North African civilisation. A poster of French-Algerian football star Zinedine Zidane is an appropriate emblematic presence. Tagines feature in lamb, poussin, bream and vegetarian versions (£7.50-£12.50), while fragrant mains include duck breast with lavender honey (£10.50). Salads and seafood dominate the starters, perhaps fried baby squid with crab or the house special of artichoke heart, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, chekchouka (spiced tomato and pepper) and feta cheese. Short wine list from £9.50. Open Tue to Sun D only.
